How to Lather Facial Soap: The Basics of Washing Without Rubbing Your Skin

The way you lather solid facial soap changes your washing experience. The key is not to compete for the largest amount of foam, but to create a consistency that allows you to wash your skin without rubbing it firmly. We have summarized the basics from wetting the soap, lathering, and washing, to rinsing.

How to Lather Facial Soap: The Basics of Washing Without Rubbing Your Skin

Before you start: wet both your hands and the soap

First, clean your hands, then wet your palms and the soap with lukewarm water. Instead of rubbing the dry soap firmly, add water bit by bit as you lather.

If you are using a foaming net, make sure the net is damp before applying the soap. Too much water can make the foam too loose, so adjust the amount little by little.

Incorporate air to create fine, dense foam

If you are lathering in your palms, rub the soap a few times, then cup your hands to incorporate air as you work up the lather. If it lacks moisture, add a tiny bit of water with your fingertips.

If you are using a foaming net, lightly work the soap into the net, rub the net together, and squeeze out the resulting foam.

  1. Wet your hands and the soap with lukewarm water.
  2. Work the soap into your palms or the foaming net.
  3. Lather while adding water and air little by little.
  4. Once you have a fine, dense foam that spreads easily over your skin, proceed to wash your face.

Use the foam as a cushion and avoid rubbing your skin

Spread the foam over your entire face and wash without rubbing the skin directly with your fingers. Start with the forehead and around the nose, where sebum tends to collect, and spend less time gently washing the cheeks and around the mouth, where the skin tends to dry out.

There is no need to wash for a long time. Once the foam has covered your entire face, proceed to rinse.

Be careful with rinsing and towel friction

Foam tends to remain along the hairline, jawline, and around the nostrils. Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water to ensure no cleanser is left behind.

After washing, do not rub your face firmly with a towel. Instead, gently press a clean towel against your skin to absorb the moisture.

If you feel dry after washing, review your moisturizing routine as well

Even after perfecting your lathering and washing techniques, you may still feel dryness after washing. In such cases, don't just focus on the washing; consider the subsequent moisturizing as part of a single routine.

LHOOQ recommends a basic routine of applying a small amount of Universal Oil after washing, followed by our Watery Serum Mist.
